Filter, camera, action: Supreme Court arrives on Instagram on eve of first hearings in Scotland

The UK Supreme Court will share photos of its first ever sitting outside London as it joins picture-sharing social media app Instagram this week.
The Court will start to share images from today (Monday 12 June) via @UKSupremeCourt or instagram.com/uksupremecourt/ as it prepares to hear three appeals in Edinburgh's City Chambers over the course of this week.
The appeals to be considered during this historic week will cover topics including sham marriages, national planning policy and the rehabilitation of determinate sentence prisoners.
The social media move will enable the UK's highest appeal court to share images of preparations for the historic set of hearings in Edinburgh. It will also be used to publish pictures of aspects of the Court's work outside the courtroom, such as educational visits, exhibitions and special events.
The Supreme Court has embraced a number of social media channels to help communicate its work, joining Twitter in 2011 and publishing video summaries of every judgment on YouTube since 2012.
Mark Ormerod, the Court's Chief Executive, said:
"This channel will serve as a window into the life of the Supreme Court beyond the courtroom. Rather than focusing on the cases heard here, it will showcase the work we do with schools and universities from around the world, and our role as a popular visitor attraction in Parliament Square."
Mark will be giving a free public talk during the Edinburgh sittings, offering those who come to observe proceedings an overview of the Supreme Court building and how the Court uses its accommodation in central London. The presentation will begin in the Council Chamber after court has risen on Wednesday 14 June, at 4.15pm.
